Computer Mice / Tablets
In the context of computing,
the mouse (plural mice or mouses) is used as a pointing device where the motion
of the mouse translates to the motion of the pointer on a display. The
mouse works by detecting two-dimensional motion that is relative to the surface
that is supporting it. The mouse is made up of a small case,
with one or more buttons, that one holds under one's hand. It sometimes
features other elements, such as "wheels", which allow the user to perform
various system-dependent operations, or extra buttons or features can add more
control or dimensional input.The name mouse, which was coined from the Stanford Research Institute,
comes from the
resemblance of early models (which had a cord attached to the rear part of the
case, suggesting the idea of a tail) to the common eponymous rodent.
The first integrated mouse came with Xerox Star 1981 and was shipped as a part
of a computer and intended for personal computer navigation.
Graphics Tablet
A graphics tablet is a
computer input
device. The tablet allows one to hand-draw images and graphics and is very similar to the way one
draws images with a pencil and paper.
Using a stylus (pen-like drawing instrument), one may "draw" on the flat
surface of the tablet. The drawn image is displayed on the
computer
monitor and usually does not appear on the tablet itself.
